MAAC meet, Day 2

Please forgive the brief and maybe disjointed post, as it has been a long -- but very fun and successful -- weekend and we are just getting back home. Very tired, drained and no voice from much screaming. But again, with good reason.

Day 2 of the MAACs was very good for the Running Red Foxes. A few quick highlights off the top of my head:

--Women's team had an amazing weekend, with Coach Chuck reporting a whopping 19 personal- or season-best performances. The 1,500-meter run was especially successful in that area.
--How competitive is the MAAC getting? Here's a quick glimpse in just one event (800-meter run): Bree Crowe runs a personal-best time of 2:15.94 in her final collegiate 800 of a brilliant career ... and just ekes out an eighth-place spot for one very, very hard-earned point. On the men's side, freshman David Marthy ran a grueling and bruising 1:54.64, essentially equalling his PR time from both indoors and outdoors -- and he gets ninth place and does not sniff a scoring spot. WOW.
--Jesse Aprile. Jesse Aprile! Our super, super sophomore sprinter scored in both the 100 and 200. His time in the 100 (11.12, fourth place) trails the school record by an eyelash (11.09). His time in the 200 (22.34, fifth place), smashed his own school record (22.78) by nearly half a second. And oh yeah, he anchored our successful 4x100 relay again.
--Who will ever forget senior sprint captain Mike McCloskey's 4x400 anchor leg? Filling in for an under-the-weather Matt Panebianco, Mike split 52.6. Remember, a 400 for Mike is akin to a marathon for a distance runner. Mike is a short sprinter. His unselfish and gutsy move is one that we'll never forget, and one that he can tell his grandkids about.

I am certain I am overlooking many other special moments of a wonderful weekend, surrounded by family, friends, alums and the best bus drivers in history in Mike and Bill. Please give me a day or two to digest it all and get it out via this blog.

Good evening, all.
