Red Fox River Rumble: What a DAY

 

There is so much -- too much -- to recap and highlight from yet another memorable day at our New Home at North Field. But perhaps this picture tells the story as best as possible. Senior Julia Kropo (left) -- who is finishing her career so strongly -- got to meet Forever Fox Danisha Craig. Julia broke Danisha's school record in the 400-meter dash earlier this season. She also won the 400 and the 200 today at the home meet. It was great for Danisha to make it back to campus, as so many other alums did on this absolutely glorious day for our program.

What a great first day for our first-ever home track meet. Of course, we weren't technically "home" on Friday, but why quibble with the details? The photo above is of our throws coach, Colton Cook, along with our first-ever individual meet champion, Jenna Borselle in the shot put, just missing her own school record of 11.55 meters from a few weeks ago. Speaking of school records! Kelly Ballen established one in the hammer throw -- her first time competing in the event, and the first-ever Marist woman to throw the hammer in competition. Good stuff. On to Day 2 at the track!

In an incredibly exciting development! There are now bleachers trackside at The Track at Gartland Commons -- not a lot, but more than none at all. Highly neat.

Excitement is building (for home meet)

 

We are a few days away from our home meet. This summer weather has been great as we are in the process of setting up the track. Coach Billy Poole-Harris is the nominal Meet Director and he is doing an amazing job with everything. Based on the entries, it looks like the meet (on the track) will run from 12 noon until about 5:15p -- if all goes well. The weather is looking favorable = cloudy and mild. Sunday and Monday, after the meet? Not so much! Cold and rainy weather. Glad we dodged that bullet.

Colonial Relays: Records, records, more records!

The school records kept coming at Colonial Relays. In the “relays” part of the Colonial, they came every race! It was so exciting. One of the records that was broken was one week old. Another was 34 years old. And everything in between. So exciting, so thrilling, so happy for our women and for the amazing coaches (Alisha Samuel and Billy Poole-Harris) who guide them.
 
200 dash: Gabby Bozeth 24.42, broke her two-week old record.
400 dash: Julia Kropo 57.45, broke Danisha Craig’s record from nine years ago.
800 run: Julianna Mirabile 2:10.08, broke one of the longest standing marks on the books, Susan Golden’s 2:11.57 from 26 years ago! Juju crushed it and won the race.
Shot put: Jenna Borselle popped off out in the throws field, breaking Lori Keyes’ mark from 1992 – our first year coaching and the first year of the women’s program!
 
And then the relays. My gosh, the relays.
--The 4x100, bettering last week’s mark
--The sprint medley, breaking a mark from 2002 (24 years ago)
--The distance medley, breaking a 2019 mark
--And of course the 4x400 relay, breaking a 1-year-old mark.

What a meet. What a meet! There was team scoring -- and boy, did we SCORE = third of 23 teams with 75 points, definitely a program best. Speaking of program best(s)? Eight school records! (more in a separate post). It was really hot both days and it was overall a great meet for the team.
