(Another) Last Chance meet (at BU): Men's results and splits

This was a last-minute decision (really, it was brewing all week) to bring these four athletes up to BU for a last-chance meet hosted by GBTC at our favorite track. Senior Ramsey Little continued his comeback to good health with a solid personal-best time in the 3,000-meter run. We weren’t sure what to expect out of Rams, but he got rolling in a fast pack and made it work for a tough and even race. Reed Dexter and Roshan Kalikasingh “raced off” for a spot on what we hope will be a 4x400 relay at IC4As, with Reed prevailing and racing to a personal-best time. Freshman Amari Mathis had two decent sprint races – neither of them PRs, but both showed improvement on his starts. All in all, a worthwhile (albeit long) day trip up to the Magic Carpet … where we’ll be back again in six days for the IC4A/ECAC meet.

MAAC Championships: Men's results, Day 2

After a train wreck of a first day, the men’s team salvaged the championships with a strong and gutty showing on Day 2. The men scored in every event in which they were entered. In the modern MAAC, points are tough to come by and we picked up some back end points in individual events in unique ways. In the hurdles, Seth Oppong-Dwamena was one of eight entries, so he was guaranteed to score with a clean race, and that’s what he ran. In the 400, Ryan Bahnsen was permitted to race in the 10-man, 2-section final after an Armory official impeded his progress in the Saturday night preliminary, and he made the most of the opportunity by notching the eighth and final scoring spot – again, no small feat in the sprinter-stacked MAAC. The big individual story of the day was pole vaulter Noah Brown, who put together his best day of vaulting of the year on the big stage and got fifth place in a stacked event, just shy of his school record. Our relays did well, with the 4x800 team getting a medal spot (third place) and the 4x400 team getting fifth place and once again just missing our goal of breaking 3:20.

MAAC Championships: Women's results, Day 2

The MAAC meet finished with some strong (and strange) performances. Sami Kehler had a very, very strong effort and personal-best run in the first section of the 3,000-meter run. She closed hard and strong and ran the last 1km as her fastest. Highly neat. Our 4x800 relay stayed competitive throughout and notched a solid scoring place. Our 4x400 relay won the first section by a lot, with some strong, season-best splits, but ultimately was DQed for cutting in too soon on the first leg. We protested this, but to no avail, which was a bummer.
