Penn Relays: Thursday night race result

I’m not prone to hyperbole, but Mallory Holloway’s 5,000-meter race at Penn Relays tonight was among the greatest individual performances by a Marist distance runner in school history.

Yes, she now trails only Michelle Gaye (who IS the greatest distance runner in school history) at the distance. More than the time, it’s the WAY she executed the race, by steadily moving up through the field. The numbers below tell the story (in parentheses, see her overall place progression in section 3 of the event).

After battling through a lot of traffic in the first 600 meters, she settled into a 79/80-second rhythm per lap for the balance of the race, throwing in a faster last lap for good measure. A perfectly executed race. Neat!
