Congratulations to blog follower, Marist Track Alum and hammer
throw school record holder Peter Van Aken of Poughkeepsie for completing his
first 5-kilometer race at Sunday’s Mid-Hudson Road Runners Club Wa Wa Wally
Waddle at Vassar Farm.
When I spoke to Peter about the Waddle a few weeks ago – when he
was participating in the hammer throw at the Vassar meet! – he said he was
hoping to break 30:00 for the 3.1-mile distance. He did that with plenty to
spare, finishing in 25:54.1 (8:21 pace). He was 58th out of 173 finishers.
That’s a pretty impressive start to a road racing career at 56
years old, for a school-record thrower still active in the sport. Nicely done,
Peter!
