Marist
Running Alum Mike Schab had a very varied racing weekend last Saturday and
Sunday.
On
Saturday, Schabby took fourth in the Greenbelt 50-kilometer run (yes, that’s
31 miles, for those keeping score at home) in 5:02:40. His race report, via
email: “Was nowhere near ready for the hills on the northern 3 miles of the
trail (was a double out-and-back). Training at Sunken Meadow was really no
help. Went off course once and wiped out on the trail a few times. All part of
the experience. I’m not a big eater, but food at the finish line – Fantastic!’’
On
Sunday, Schab ran the 14th annual Elizabeth McNamee 5K in his
hometown of West Islip. He has only missed this race once, in 2005 due to a
late MAAC Outdoor Championship date, and so despite a hard and long 31 miles he
said he “figured I had to run it.” Here is his short race report, via email:
“Hurting the first mile and ran a 6:30. Started feeling better and came back
with two 5:47s. Finish time: 18:47 (17th place). Overall, a
successful weekend.”
I
would say so! Nicely done!
