The red and white were well represented at the Windy City.
Spencer Johnson wore Marist gear on his warmup and cooldown and got lots of
cheers! But for the race, he wore a San Diego Track Club singlet, of which we
approve. Spencer now lives out there and that team has been a big boon to his
training. Spencer ran a 9-minute PR of 2:29:45. He had 14 family members in
town to support him. And yet … he was hoping for a bit more. He was on
sub-2:20/low-2:20s pace for much of the race, but hit a late-race wall. We feel
Spencer is still learning the distance, but we’re proud of his strong effort
out there.
Speaking of strong efforts … how about Mike G! Mike Guarascio,
now 36 (hard to believe) ran a nearly 10-minute PR and an incredible neg split
effort of 2:43:47 (1:23:13/1:20:34), in the process exceeding his “A” goal of
2:45 in the process (very neat, G!). Other alumni: Omar Perez (2:54:58) and
John Keenan (3:11:24) had strong races in the wind of the Windy City.
