Albany Invitational: “There is no B team …”

In cross country, pre-race huddles are a tangle of high-wire emotions as runners get ready to enter a whole world of hurt. As a coach, I often do not get in there, leaving it up to the team to fire themselves up. Sometimes I’m compelled to get in there, as I did on Friday at UAlbany. And sometimes, the athletes have better ideas than the coaches. Junior Matthew Ronan had the line of the season when he declared: “There is no Marist B team … just one big A team!” And then the boys went out and ran just like that! Credit to Ronan too, who was our fifth man on a typically windy and chilly day in Albany. Neat! Results to follow in another post, but I felt this was worthy of its own post. Nicely done, Ronan!
