A wise (and loyal!) follower of the program -- channeling his inner Buck Showalter -- texted me a well-worn baseball saying that is sort of applicable to today's meet for the men: "You can't win the division in April, but you sure can lose it." The implication being! A good early-season (or, in this case, really, preseason) performance does not guarantee any future success. But a less-than-stellar early-season meet can set a tone (not a good one) for the season. With that in mind? Today was a good day for the men. This year's team had 15 men finish faster than last year's fifth runner. A marked improvement? Yes. A good start? Yes. What does that mean? It means THIS: Tomorrow is another day, another long run. Next week is another meet. On it goes. This parade is just starting. OK.
