It is with great pride that I report what most of you already know: Marist Running Alum Brian Townsend (see photo taken here by mom Ginny Townsend) placed 96th overall in Sunday's NYC Marathon with a personal-best time of 2:41:33. That's a five-minute improvement over his 2012 debut at the distance.
Brian ran a methodical, even race. His half-marathon split was 1:20:29. Wow! His second half of 1:21:02 was only 33 seconds (SECONDS!) slower than the first half. As one of his former teammates texted after the race, it's the most even splits he has ever seen. Hard to argue that.
Given the course and the conditions, such even pacing is truly remarkable. Good stuff!
