Sorry for the lack of posts. It's June, one of the rare down times for Marist Running. Next week, we head to Indiana for USA Juniors, with Mark Valentino racing the 3,000 steeplechase on Sunday, so that should inspire a few more posts.
Speaking of racing on Sunday ... this old coach is getting ready to toe the line on Sunday (tomorrow morning) at the Lake Placid Marathon up here in the Adirondacks. We (the whole family!) are currently staying in Saranac Lake, deep in the High Peaks area of the Adirondacks. This is the town where baseball great Christy Mathewson came to live toward the end of his heroic life. The Big Six battled tuberculosis, and the fresh mountain air was supposed to be a panacea for him.
The mountain air is indeed fresh. But one quick look at the course elevation profile proves that this is no flat, straight shot on a bike path, like my last marathon (Mohawk Hudson in the fall). As a result, it could be a long, slow day out here on the mountainous roads.
We'll try to update on things in the coming week.
