Spencer Johnson notched a painful PR and Dietrich Mosel had
a tough return to racing, as the two men carried on a long tradition of Marist
runners in the 10,000-meter run late at night at Penn Relays. Spencer was on
pace for a monster PR before a stomach cramp slowed him down considerably
during the second half of the race. He was able to battle through it and earn a
two-second PR and another IC4A qualifier, but he was upset at not being able to
run a sub-31:00 and a much bigger PR. Dietrich has battled a foot injury since
mid-March and this was his first race back. I believe he is in better shape
than this, but the fast early pace was too much for him to handle. After what
has been a great sophomore year for Dietrich, this was a bummer of a race. We’re
hoping for a strong, bounce-back effort at the MAAC meet next week.
