Mets Outdoor Championships: Day 2 summary

The weather forecast had been so ominous for so many days. How bad was the forecast? Several teams did not even bother to show up today to the second day of the championships. Neighboring meets in New Jersey were postponed to Sunday. Was it that bad? Well. By the end of the meet, it was pretty darn uncomfortable. But! It's April outdoor track in the Northeast. Cold rain and wind? Yeah. Been there. Done that. The conditions were pretty bad and the performances were affected. There were not many highlights for us. There were several lowlights, actually. But it was a meet on our schedule, and we did it, and now we are on our way home. Everyone survived and we look forward to some sunshine this coming week. One positive is that the meet rolled along at a rapid pace, due to consolidated heats and good officiating. We were on a northbound bus by 3:30 p.m. and we are nearly home, with several hours of gray daylight in front of us. The weather in the mid-Hudson Valley was decidedly better than at Rutgers University. But our meet was at Rutgers and we got through it. Results and splits to follow. A word on the splits? I kept my gloved hands in my pockets for the day, so these splits are courtesy of the meet timing company. Many meets are going to this method, which is very useful.
