The 10,000-meter run was held under less-than-ideal conditions late on Friday night. Our guys, Spencer Johnson and Matt Baffuto, had a long day of waiting around -- fortunately, not in the sun but rather back at the hotel, thanks to the generosity of our bus driver Tony, who did multiple shuttle runs. Still, it was a long, hot day that morphed into a long, hot night and the wind started whipping up pretty good during the 25-lapper. Both guys went out a bit aggressively early and paid for it, but both guys were able to gather it together for a strong enough finish to get their respective qualifying marks out of the way:
--Spencer got the IC4A mark with a 16th-place finish in 31:28.18. The standard this year is 31:30.00
--Matt got the USATF Junior mark with a 21st place finish in 32:00.25. The standard this year is 32:05.00.
Whenever I get around to posting the splits, you'll see that both guys did it the hard way -- suicidal early pace on many levels (conditions, splits, etc.) -- and hanging on for dear life after that. No matter, it's done and our season is officially extended into June. Nicely done, men!
