Congratulations to junior racewalker Katie Miale for her
outstanding personal-best time at Penn Relays on Saturday morning. She went out
at a crazy, breakneck pace (sub-8:00 for the first mile!) but hung on for a
great PR. Katie has battled numerous issues in training through the late winter
and spring, so this PR was gratifying and displays how much grit, determination
and hard work she has put in. Great for her. Up next is her primary racewalking
distance, 20km, next weekend. Also, kudos to Coach Chuck for his extra
dedication to the program this weekend. Chuck drove down to Philly for the Thursday
night women’s distance races, drove back to northern New Jersey on Thursday
night, stayed in a hotel, worked a full day of teaching on Friday, and then got
Katie and drove her back down to Philly on Friday night. Then up early to
Franklin Field for Katie’s excellent race, and back to Marist this afternoon.
And tomorrow morning? On a bus to Yale for a full day at THAT meet. That’s a
lot of driving and a lot of track in a few days and it shows Chuck’s ironclad
loyalty to the program. Not many part-time coaches would do all that. Nicely
done. To both of them. Today!
