Quenching our thirst

The morning started out a little rocky, and quite frankly left me in a grumpy mood.

News item #1: Some athletic administrators were concerned with the fact that ongoing construction behind the cafeteria/Champagnat Hall might negatively impact Saturday morning's Red Fox Trot 5K. As in: Heavy construction equipment beep-beep-beeping on the course as a couple hundred runners barreled uphill. A very reasonable concern! Arrrrgh 1.
News item #2: It was shaping up to be an extremely hot day, and our teams had very challenging interval workouts scheduled. With hydration ever on the forefront of my mind, I was hoping to get some actual Gatorade for the Gatorade coolers. But my initial requests were being rebuffed. Arrrrgh 2.

Let's deal with #2. This was a real concern. Plain old water is better than nothing, but Gatorade/sports drink is far superior on a day like today. Fortunately, our friendly athletic trainer had the solution. She gave me a WHOLE BOX of Gatorade drink mix to use at our discretion. Problem #2 solved.

After a long and hot day of sweaty practices -- men at Wallkill Valley Rail Trail in New Paltz and women at Vassar Farm in Poughkeepsie -- a quick check of my e-mail inbox revealed that, alas, the construction crews will be OFF on Saturday morning. Bless their weekend hearts. Fox Trot runners can plod safely uphill. Problem #1 solved.

Look forward to seeing everyone in the morning.
