Just getting home from another wonderful night at our "home" track at Vassar (of course, it's not our home, but our good friends at Vassar sure make us feel like home there!). One team member commented that this is the "best meet of the year." And in many ways, it is. It's where we practice. It's 10 minutes from campus. Everyone can come to watch. And our athletes generally do pretty well there. And oh yeah, the weather's almost always really nice!
The meet is still going on (for the first time in meet history, we do not have athletes running the 10k under the lights), so official results have yet to be posted and tabulated. Once they are, we will post the results here. Here are a few highlights from the meet this afternoon and this evening:
--Freshman high jumper Fallon Quigley tied her collegiate best with a leap of 1.57 meters (5 feet, 1.75 inches). This mark tied her with one of the oldest records on the books, set by Charlene Fields way back in 1992. Fallon now has or shares both high jump records -- indoors and outdoors. Her jumping mate, senior Siobhan Pokorney, had a strong day at the high jump area as well. Both will be jumping at the MAAC meet on Sunday.
--Sophomore Courtney Cartwright won the 400-meter hurdles in a personal-best time. I did not write down the exact time, but it was 1:06.xx. We will update this as soon as the official results are posted. Courtney looked strong and ran an excellent hurdle race. She will also be competing at MAACs.
--Our women's 4x100 relay team of Ashley Haynes, Danielle Asaro, Molly Weeks and Danisha Craig won the event but were just shy of the school record in the mark. They will aim for perfect handoffs on Sunday in one last crack at a school record.
--In the 5km under the lights, freshman Will Duggan ran his best race of the year with a time of roughly 16:08. Nick (The Swimmer) Vandermolen proved us all wrong by running a great debut in the event, just a few ticks behind Duggan (again, official times will be posted later).
--Emily Franko ran an inspired 1,500 race, improving by nearly 20 seconds from just a few days ago at Yale. Kerri-Anne Flynn had a great debut at 5,000 as well!
More details on the meet to follow when the official results are posted, either later tonight or first thing in the morning. Best meet of the year? It's up there, for sure.
