Going "batty" over some loyal alums' gift

Congrats to Marist Running Alums Sean Hopkins and Mike Schab for completing the Kentucky Derby Marathon earlier this month. Hard to believe, but Hopkins and Schab are now in the 30-plus age division! Hopkins was 11th overall and third in his age division in 2:52:02. Schab was 64th overall and 17th in his age division in 3:09:31.

While in Kentucky, these loyal alums decided to get their ailing old coach a souvenir, which arrived at the house via mail last week. It is an authentic Louisville Slugger wood baseball bat, with the words “Pete Colaizzo, Leg Replacement, Marist Alumni Racing Team, Schab & Hopkins” engraved in it. You can see these words along with my son James displaying the bat. Now, this is certainly a gift that an old coach can go “batty” over, wouldn’t you say?
