Tailgating at Stony Brook

Before plowing forward for what will be an incredibly busy and hectic schedule of traveling to meets near and far (see details below), I would be remiss if I did not mention and recap what a wonderful day we had down at Stony Brook on Wednesday.

The sunshine and warmth were resplendent. The sparkling new track facility that our pal Andy Ronan and his staff have been blessed with at Stony Brook University was truly stunning. There was a little bit of a stiff breeze as the day wore on, but for early April we’ll take it.

And then there was all the family, friends and alumni who came out on a seemingly random Wednesday afternoon to share in the fun. It was great to see them all. Special thanks to Ginny and Jim Townsend (Brian’s parents) for providing us a great post-race tailgate at the track. The Townsends live a short jog away from the Stony Brook campus in East Setauket, so this was truly home-cookin’ for them.

The meet was over and done with in a little more than three hours. Competition was great and quick, and we arrived back to Marist just as daylight was waning over the Hudson River.

Depending on how future schedules work out, we absolutely plan on returning the Stony Brook for spring meets like this in the future.

Looking forward … as I said, the schedule gets jammed up quickly.

--We have a handful of athletes at Princeton tonight
--Next weekend, we have a partial squad at a Vassar “home” meet on Saturday
--Also next weekend, we will be sending a partial squad to Bucknell for a Saturday/Sunday meet
--The week after that, we will be traveling to California with a few athletes for the Mt. SAC Relays
--Later that weekend, we will send several athletes to Princeton for the Larry Ellis meet
--The next week is Penn Relays/Yale … which leads right into the second Vassar meet and then, of course, the MAAC meet.

And before you know it, we will be in cap and gown for graduation. Spring track ends as quickly as it begins. Enjoy the ride.
