Home and away

As our program continues to expand and evolve, it is a reality that we have split-squad scenarios like the one we face on Saturday: Two meets on the same day.

In this case, our sprint squad and a partial mid/distance squad will stay home and compete at the April Invitational at Vassar College, our de facto “home track.” The weather forecast looks absolutely splendid, and there is no better venue for a spring meet that Vassar’s wonderful track.

At the same time, a squad of women’s and men’s mid/distance athletes will be traveling to Bucknell for the Bison Classic at the beautiful and historic campus in Lewisburg, Pa. The weather forecast there looks equally lovely. The Bucknell meet continues into Sunday as well.

My travel schedule calls for a van ride out to Lewisburg with the 10,000-meter guys, who race first in the mid-afternoon. We will stay for the remainder of the women’s and men’s distance races during the late afternoon/evening, and then return to Poughkeepsie at some point in the early hours of Sunday morning to be at the Admission Open House all day Sunday. Coach Chuck will stay at Bucknell for Day 2 of Bison.

It’s never fun to splinter the team, as we like to see everyone race all the time. But sometimes it makes sense.

Check back later in the weekend for results, splits, updates …
