Biker boys

The distance men who had a solid evening of racing on Friday night arrived at the University of Richmond campus on Saturday morning ready and eager to do their weekend long run in the warm Southern weather.

Afterwards, they reported back excitedly about the beauty of the rolling hills campus. And, the free bikes.

Huh? Free bikes?

Yes. At Richmond, they have a free, ZipCar-type system with bicycles. The one-speed, yellow bikes can be picked up, pedaled and dropped off at any point along the campus. It’s an honor system, and it’s pretty cool.

So there were a group of pale and skinny geeks from the Northeast, fresh from their long run, ready to pedal their free bikes in search of (hopefully free) food. Of course. They heard the Richmond cafeteria was highly rated. I’m happy to report that the men, acting out of character, paid their way in and enjoyed an excellent lunch.

But alas, the full-bellied men exited the cafeteria to no waiting bikes, so they had to walk back to the stadium. They managed.

Above is a photo of the biker boys with their old (and overdressed) coach in the middle.
