On Tuesday at practice, all event groups wore purple ribbons (and most wore white team shirts). It was a coordinated event organized by sophomore distance runner Mallory Holloway. Mal is an Athlete Ambassador for the Boomer Esiason Foundation, where she helps raise awareness for the cystic fibrosis (CF) community. According to Mal in an email to the team:
May is CF Awareness Month, and one of the ways we celebrate it is through an event called Breathe Week—a week dedicated to being active and promoting movement for a great cause.
This year, I’d love your support! On Tuesday, May 6th, I’m asking everyone to wear a purple ribbon to practice in honor of the CF community. I’ll have ribbons ready for you, and all I ask is that you wear them to practice and take a few group/individual photos that I can share with the foundation.
To keep the photos looking clean and uniform, it’d be awesome if you could wear black bottoms and your white Marist track top that day.
If you’re interested, you can also choose to make a small donation to my team to support CF research and advocacy—but that’s totally optional! Here is the link: https://fundraisers.hakuapp.com/teams/team-mallory
