Jiggy's our Maine Man

Recent graduate John “Jiggy” Ignacz won the inaugural Great Bangor Marathon on Sunday (and the $1,000 prize money that goes along with it!) in 2:38:26, an average of 6:02.57 per mile. This is remarkably similar to his debut marathon time at Shamrock in March 2023 (2:38:13)debut marathon time at Shamrock in March 2023 (2:38:13) but he said this one felt easier. In a text, he said it “kinda just felt like a steady long run and never really got close to the wall. Think I settled too much once I took the lead. Way easier than the last one.” If you look at his splits and his heartrate, the corroborate his analysis. John decided to do this toward the end of the spring semester, and he went into it with no real marathon buildup other than his track fitness and one or two longer runs. He’s excited to see what a more traditional marathon buildup might yield for Boston 2025, which is now qualified for! Nicely done, Jiggy!
