Going into today’s Terrier meet at BU, I’ll admit to not being filled with the utmost confidence, as is usually the case when we make our trek to the Magic Carpet track at the Track and Tennis Center. This men’s team has been riddled with issues – myriad illnesses and some injuries. But mostly illnesses. Our lineup was incomplete, and the several of the guys that did make the trip up here were far from being at their 100-percent best. But, one of our unofficial team mottos last year was “make plans, not excuses,” and so it was today. There were enough highlights to keep us hungry for more, and eager for a return to some semblance of normalcy, when we come back here in two weeks for the Valentine Invitational. Here we go:
--Junior Chris Paxis became the second-fastest miler in school history, torching a 28.521-second last lap en route to 4:09.23. Highly neat.
--Junior Easton Eberwein popped his first sub-50 in the 400 dash, sprinting to a 49.96-second finish.
--Junior Tyler Perry drilled down a six-second PR in the 1,000, breaking the 2:30.00 barrier for the first time and finishing 15th in 2:29.11. Look at those splits! All 29s, with less than 0.334 variance in them. Amazing!
--In the 3,000-meter run, freshman Kieran Donnelly (8:30.75) and senior Daniel Czop (8:31.85) both notched personal-best times. Donnelly improved on his previous best by four seconds while Czop lowered his previous best by more than 20 seconds.
--In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Gabriel Rodriguez ran a personal-best time of 14:49.32 and moved up to 16th all-time in school history in the event.
Saturday’s DMR lineup is slated to be Tyler Perry on the 1,200, Easton Eberwein on the 400, Brendan Dearie on the 800, and Chris Paxis on the 1,600. Plans. Not excuses.
