Tomorrow's Metropolitan meet at Ocean Breeze is still on, but we won't be there. Marist has already canceled all classes for Friday (this is rare; usually the school waits till the morning for cancellations or delays) because of an impending mess of a winter storm -- freezing rain, ice, snow, the classic "wintry mix" of precipitation. Our scheduled bus departure of 6a was just too risky, especially considering the forecast is calling for the rain (currently, it's pouring outside) to change over to freezing rain as the temperature begins to plummet. It was in the 40s today; by the end of Saturday, it will be below zero. Crazy winter weather. So anyway. Marist's athletic administration decided it would not be prudent for us to travel. If the meet were later in the day, we possibly could have made a game-time decision. But because of the early start, it was decided that we shouldn't risk it. As disappointing as this is for our athletes, it's difficult to argue the logic behind the decision. And so we'll pivot and get ready for the remainder of the season, starting with next week's Valentine meet at Boston University. We were looking forward to Mets but given the choice of meets we would have to miss out on, BU meets hold far more sway in our importance. The Mets' meet director was bummed at the news, but there are always other meets. Stay safe out there.
