As our racewalking tradition continues
to grow, Saturday was a great day. Freshman Lauren Harris, already a decorated
USATF-caliber racewalker in high school, and junior Katie Miale, herself a
multi-time USATF Junior Championships qualifier, both qualified for the USATF
Indoor Championships with their strong performances at the Millrose Games at
the Armory. The standard to qualify for the Indoor Championships, to be held in
Albuquerque in two weeks, is 7:30.00. Lauren easily bested that with her
fourth-place finish in 6:52.55. Katie just squeaked under the standard with a
7:29.33. Remember, Katie’s best event is likely the 20km distance, far longer
than the relative sprint of the mile, where she got a personal-best time by
close to 40 seconds! Both of these young ladies represented Marist well at the
prestigious Millrose Games. We are proud of them. Nicely done!
