Is there an outdoor track in our future?

According to this article in the Poughkeepsie Journal on Saturday ... yes, it appears that is possible. The bulk of the article, written by my old Journal colleague John Davis, focuses on plans for possible new housing on the North End. However, the last two paragraphs open up the possibility for a track at North Field. Here are those last two paragraphs ...

The updated master plan also suggests building a 400-meter track around the athletic fields on the north end of campus. There is currently no track on campus for the track team to hold meets or practice on.

"We have a pretty accomplished track team so (college President Dennis Murray) wants to make sure all the teams have the resources to be successful,” Cannon said.

While it is too early to get excited, the fact that this information was in print on Saturday makes the possibility of its reality seem more plausible. Time will tell. But isn't that always the case?

If the reality of a 400 meter outdoor track ever appears, it will be another stretch of the imagination to see if they include a proper hammer throw and separate discus throw practice and competition area!

Frankly, if the administration truly cared about providing the "resources to be successful" for ALL the campus teams, an INDOOR track, and field event facilities, which were lost when Basketball got what they wanted, would be better for the growth and improvement of future track and field athletes.

Everytime I think about hitting the lottery - part of it was to fund a proper track facility.

Fingers crossed for you Pete.

YOU WILL NOT GET A TRACK. THAT MONEY WILL BE SPENT ON TEAMS THAT BRING MONEY INTO THE SCHOOL AND THE REVENUES WILL NOT BE SHARED TO THE STUDENTS. YOUR SCHOOL CAN NOT COMPETE AGAINST THE LIKES OF IONA AND STANFORD SCHOOLS THAT FUND THEIR RUNNING TEAMS. IF YOU HAVEN'T GOTTEN A TRACK BY NOW IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
