--Goofy pre-race handlebar mustache, evoking memories of
some of the worst MAAC mustaches in history (of which he had many).
--Racing hard for NYAC, getting a PR at 10 miles on a chilly
and windy day on Long Island.
--Celebrating as only Conor can, with beer at the brewery
where the race finished.
Ah yes, to be young and Conor Shelley for a day. Our man
placed second in the Sayville Running Company 10-mile Run to the Blue Point
Brewery on Long Island. All joking and bad facial hair aside, Conor killed it
out there.
He ran 52:17.2, clocking 26:08 for the first 5 miles and 26:09.2 for
the second 5 miles. He reported via text that he drilled the last mile, into
the teeth of a strong wind, in 5:12, and he clocked a 5:10 on mile 4.
In this case, second place is something to be proud of. The
winner, Brendan Martin of Smithtown, ran 51:43.4. More significantly, Martin
ran an eye-popping 2:16:28 at the California International Marathon in
December. Not a bad guy to be runner-up to, I would say.
Beers to you, my friend ...
