Sophomore racewalker Kristi Licursi, who made USATF Juniors last year in the event, opened up her 2015 season with a victory at the USATF Adirondack All Comers meet at Union College in Schenectady last Friday night. The walk distance was 1,500 meters, but there appeared to be some confusion with the finish line, as Kristi explained in a text:
"The sheet my lap counter gave me says 7:42 but they messed up my finish because they didn't tell me where the exact finish was, so I stopped before the line and then was told to keep going so my real time was faster but that is what they recorded when I crossed the line!" Phew. Got that?
In defense of Kristi, the Union indoor track is a bit challenging. I recall racing there back in the 1980s. If it's the same facility now as then (and, judging by what I found at the Union web site, it is), it's a square track, probably in the 150- to 160-meter range, which makes start and finish areas for all distances rather chaotic. As this winter storm approaches, oh how we would love to have such a sub-standard facility on which to train (you know, like the one we used to have)!
Great job, Kristi, and here's hoping for bigger and better racewalking results as the semester progresses.

Good to see a racewalk result- looking forward to more.
There is also an indoor all-comers meet, which will include 1500m RW, Friday February 13 at SUNY Albany, sponsored by USATF-adir. Then the Association championships March 15, also at SUNY Albany.
