As soon as the men’s 10km race was getting completed, the skies over Rider University opened up into a strong and heavy rainstorm, just in time for the women’s 10km race! Gianna Tedeschi laughed and smiled a “why me?” smile, so fitting of the spring 2021 semester. And then she went out and dominated the race from start to finish, taking home the MAAC title in her final MAAC meet. A few events prior to that, her good friend Ali Bartolotta also exited the MAAC stage with a top finish, taking second in the 3,000 steeplechase. For a pair of outstanding women who have contributed so much to our program, it was great to see this.
On the men’s side, we had two 8th-place scorers (Liam Haggerty, javelin; Patrick Kutch, 3,000-steeple), one qualifier for Sunday’s final (Jeremy Mooney, 100-meter dash) and some solid individual performances (Hartman in the 10km, Roshan and Sweeney in the 800, Dearie in the 1,500). No matter the weather, we look forward to a return trip to Rider tomorrow morning.
