We are several days into the preseason. Sorry for the lack
of posts. Here’s a quick recap so far:
Wednesday: The team reported to campus and for the first
time our athletes were housed in the new North End housing – Ward Hall, in this
case. These new dorms are state-of-the-art and, most importantly for August …
air conditioned!
Thursday: Traditional first workout for the men, Mills Hills
at Staatsburg State Historic Site.
Friday: Traditional first workout for the women, timed intervals
at Bowdoin Park.
For the first time, both the men’s and women’s teams
traveled together to these venues, which was nice.
Saturday: We traveled to Minnewaska State Park Preserve in
Ulster County for a group long run, followed by a dip in the refreshing lake
and then a picnic lunch. Kudos to Coach Chuck for organizing the lunch with
sandwiches provided by Shelly’s Deli in Hyde Park. Upon our return to campus,
it was a team lift in North Field Fitness (“the tent”), which was a sweltering
91 degrees because power was cut to the McCann Center area due to ongoing
construction. By the end of the lift, power was restored and the tent cooled
off somewhat.
This morning (Sunday) is move-out day, with a few recovery
days before we embark on another challenging week of training next week, with
late summer heat expected to kick in at full force. Glad to have the teams back
on campus as we strive to Be Better in 2019-2020. We look forward to the
arrival of our track team at the end of the next week as well.
Happy New Year!
