Busy (and successful) racewalk weekend

Quite an amazing weekend for our growing racewalk family! Saturday at the Millrose Games, senior Katie Miale walked a mile personal-best of 7:15.07 and got fifth place. She was followed closely by new teammate Kayla Shapiro, who PRed in 7:16.95. Both times easily qualified both for the USATF Indoor Championships in two weeks (Sunday, Feb. 24) at Ocean Breeze. Lauren Harris was on a blistering pace but was DQed because of a form violation (common in racewalking). No worries! With the help of her loyal teammate Katie, she qualified at a meet on Sunday morning at Ocean Breeze, were both walked PR times for 3km (14:03.64 for Lauren; 14:28.33 for Katie … both easily exceeding the USATF standard of 14:40). So! We’ll have three Marist racewalkers competing at USATF Indoors! Kayla may not be in a Marist singlet, because as a transfer she still may not be cleared to compete for Marist (she is eligible for practice). No worries, she’s part of the family … the growing family of Marist racewalkers. We are proud of them all – past, present and future. Very neat!
