Kristen Traub finished 93rd out of 147 entrants in the 1,500-meter race. The winner of her section (Section 4) was Abby Regan of Washington State, who ran the fastest time of all the sections (4:19.49, which is among the fastest nationally this year). This could possibly account for the sizzling early pace of her race.
Could she have run a more balanced race in a later, less peppy section? It is possible, but Kristen would never use that as an excuse, and nor will we. She texted me that she ran as hard as she could and that she would have gone out at an aggressive pace no matter the section. We are proud of her, and we are anxiously awaiting David Marthy's race in a few hours.
