What a weekend ...

 Whew. The nominal "weekend" hasn't even started yet, and already it's been quite a weekend, with much more to come.

We have the Penn Relays, where Marist athletes have overwhelmingly done amazing on Thursday night and Friday so far (more details to follow). And, we have one more relay (women's 4x800) later today!

We have the Vassar Springtime Invitational this afternoon/evening, always a "fan favorite" as our de facto home meet (until, of course, we host a meet of our own in the coming years at the soon-to-be-completed North Field Track and Turf facility).

And! We have another quintessential "Marist XC/track wedding" with Omar Perez and Catherine Ferreri getting married. We already got a taste of what's to come with pre-wedding day activities on Friday. Like any "Marist wedding," this one will be special. As an added bonus, most of our local running friends and acquaintances will be there, so it should be really, really neat. OK!

More from Boston!

 Congrats to Mike Guarascio on his incredibly even-split Boston (and sorry to have missed him in the first batch of results!). Mike G placed 256th in the 40-44 division and ran 2:50:15, with the following splits: 1:25:06/1:25:09 = Wow! And, these two awesome pictures of Spencer and Graham running together, and Shea and Denise connecting post-race. Neat on top of neat!

Big day at Boston!

Marist cross country/track alums had a stellar day at Monday’s Boston Marathon!
 
Leading the way were 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials qualifier Spencer Bossi-Johnson, who placed 107^th overall in 2:26:24. Hayley Collins cracked the top-100 in the women’s field (94^th overall) with her time of 2:48:04.
 
Eight men and women cracked the 3-hour barrier, with Graham Strzelecki cracking the elite sub-2:30 barrier for the first time. Here is a list of alumni finishers:

Bucknell meet: Women's results

Two school records and numerous personal-best marks = solid weekend for the women at Bucknell. Adele's 3km performance was dominant -- she led from the gun, by a lot, and won by more than 25 seconds. Adele loves the 3km distance and on Sunday, it loved her back: Personal best, school record, sub-9:50. No more boxes for her to check there! Photos above are from that awesome race: Adele, and Julia R. It was the last non-relay event of a long weekend, they waited around all weekend for it, and it was worth the wait. Neat.

Bucknell meet: Men's results

After watching freshman Logan Schaeffler's strong debut at the 5km distance on Saturday night, a coach from another team asked: "Was Logan's time a freshman school record for your program?" My response: "Damned if I know!"

Here's what I do know: It was his first time racing the 5km, an event he was not specifically trained for. Our race plan was loose (don't go out too hard, have a kick, if you can break 15, great!). It was damp and chilly all day and Shef sat out under our tent for hours, before we were able to move the van closer to the track and he could stay warm in there for a bit before the late night start. 

And, oh yeah, this: His last lap (60.69) was the fastest of any runner in the event!

As I was typing this up, a similar question arose: Was Miles Chamberlain's 1,500m time a freshman school record? Again, my answer: Damned if I know!

My guess? Shef's might be, Miles' probably not. Either way, it's a fun discussion. Because it means these young men are doing good things.

Colonial Relays: Hot times!

Weekend highlights:

--Crazy warm weather – mid-80s both days, with blazing sunshine on Saturday afternoon. Will make for a rude awakening upon returning to the mid-Hudson Valley. The insane heat definitely had an impact on the 4x1500 relay teams!
--So many personal-best performances, too numerous to mention!
--Two school records – Easton Eberwein in the 400 dash and the men’s 4x400 relay, breaking a 20-year-old school record.
--OK, a few exceptional personal-bests worth mentioning: Emily Litke dropping 30 seconds from her previous best in the 3,000 steeple; Adele Alexander lopping close to a minute off her previous 5km best. Wow.
--We love this meet and can’t wait to celebrate the 60^th annual Colonial Relays in 2026. Until we return again, Williamsburg, please order up some beautiful weather again!
