BU Terrier highlights: Marthy shatters 1,000-meter mark

Strong afternoon and evening for the men. Here are the quick highlights. Full results and splits to follow:

--Junior captain David Marthy shattered his year-old school mark in the 1,000-meter run with an IC4A qualifying mark of 2:26.50. This breaks his record of 2:28.31 from last year at this meet.
--In the 500-meter dash, Matt Edwards ran the fastest freshman time in school history in the event, placing 26th in 1:05.68. The time was less than a half-second off the IC4A qualifying mark of 1:05.20 in the event, and was a personal-best time by more than two seconds.
--In the 5,000-meter run, junior Mark Valentino shattered his previous personal-best time by nearly 15 seconds, placing 38th in 15:08.27.
--In the 3,000-meter run, sophomore Johnny Lee improved on his previous best by seven seconds with his personal-best time of 8:45.78.
--Other personal-best times were recorded by freshman Kyle Heubner and sophomore Zach Berzal (800-meter run); junior Bryan Buttigieg (1,000-meter run); freshman Zach Toner (mile run).
