Bigger blue doughnut

Hmmm. Something strange happened on the way to debating that “polar vortex” thing. It got warm out. Like, late-winter/early-spring March warm. Who turned off the freezer? Hey. We are not complaining. Not by any stretch.

On Monday, when we ventured over to SUNY New Paltz with our sprint team for a workout on the indoor track, we realized there was a better option. A bigger blue doughnut. This beautiful, unused, 8-lane outdoor track on the SUNY campus, with stunning views of the Shawangunk Ridge as a backdrop. Envious that we do not have such a thing? You bet! It was cloudy and about 45 degrees with no wind. Heck. We’d take that on March 13 or April 13 at Vassar. You get that on January 13, it feels like you won the lottery. So we gave our athletes the option of inside or outside. A majority of them chose outside. A few wanted the warmth of inside, and I was glad to oblige while Coach Horton stayed outside with most of the team.

Today, we head back over for sprint practice once again. The forecast says sunny and mid-40s. Perhaps we will have a split blue doughnut crew today as well.
