Coronavirus and us

The situation surrounding this potential pandemic is changing almost by the hour. In the context of a possible widespread health crisis, track practices and track meets seem trivial. But, this being a blog entitled “Marist Running,” we must put the Coronavirus situation into our very narrow perspective. The bottom line is … we don’t know. We don’t know what’s going to happen. We don’t know which decisions are prudent, proper or in the best timing. We’ll probably know more in the coming days, certainly in the coming weeks. Colleges and universities in our vicinity are already going to contingencies – closing in advance of spring break, moving to strictly online learning, stuff like that. Will Marist do the same? Who knows? As of right now, as I write this, it’s “business as usual” at Marist. In this age of misinformation, it’s important to note that. Of course, this could change in a moment’s notice. And if it does change … will this impact our ability to function as a track program? You know … practices, meets, stuff like that? It could. But we won’t be the only program and the only sport that is affected. It’s a constantly evolving situation. Decisions will be made far up the food chain and way up the totem pole from where we reside. We will roll with it and make the best of whatever the situation is, all the while praying for those who will be affected by this virus.
