Strong winds in Philly, strong day for the red and white. In
the women’s race, 2017 graduate Elizabeth Wasserman had a stellar debut,
placing 31st overall and fourth in her age group in 3:07:49.
Elizabeth was an ECAC qualifier at 10,000 meters, so we knew that the move up
to the marathon was a natural progression for her. Nicely done!
In the men’s race, 2012 grad Luke Shane cracked the top-100
overall with a time of 2:45:58. A strong effort from a consistent marathon
runner. David Marthy, who still owns middle distance records, had a strong
debut at the long distance, running a negative-split (1:27:36/1:25:53) 2:53:29.
In post-race texting, I asked him about the wind. He said: “Wind was wind. Ain’t
no thang.” Vintage Marthy, as was this pre-race selfie of him and Luke.
