Gloves from Frenchy

My youngest son James and I attended our final Mets game of the year, courtesy of Guy With The Glasses and GWTG's Significant Other (Don't worry; THEY know who THEY are!). Anyway, it was a fun time, despite the fact that the Mets got blown out by the lowly Phillies, 14-8. We sat in Section 106 (excellent seats, courtesy of GWTG-SO!) with Marist Running Alums Billy Posch, Kelley Gould, Matt Panebianco, Quimes DelaCruz, Billy's dad and Billy's cousin. Great company, one and all.

As the game got out of control, James asked for permission to go down to the first row near the right field foul line, with Quimes as his "adult" supervisor. James loves the GOAT; they are kindred spirits, for sure. So GOAT and GOAT Junior went down there. James was yelling at Phillies' right fielder Jeff Francoeur to throw him a ball. Frenchy, as he is called, was a good sport and had some playful banter with all the fans in the right field area. And then! As Frenchy trotted out to his position in the bottom of the ninth inning, he pointed at James, jogged over to him, and gave him a pair of his game-used batting gloves. What an awesome gesture from a pretty solid Major League outfielder! And ... talk about a thrill for a 9-year-old kid! He'll never forget who Jeff Francoeur is. And hopefully, some day his hands will be big enough to use those fancy red and white gloves.

Let's Go Mets.
