Miles for dollars = (please) make a donation!

With the exciting announcement (back in December) of a future on-campus track facility on our beautiful campus at Marist College, our primary focus now is fundraising to ensure that this longtime dream comes to fruition. We (as a track coaching staff) have been working hard on some ideas for alumni engagement events in the coming months, so please stay tuned for future posts.
 
In the meantime, we’re starting off our fundraising drive with a “Dollars for Miles” campaign and we hope you will consider making a contribution. Back around New Year’s, I set a goal of walking and running at least 200 miles in (the month of) January to kickstart the 2024 fundraising and engagement initiatives. We’re asking you to consider a dollar-for-dollar donation of at least $200 (or more, if you want to “pledge” a higher amount per mile). My final January walk/run mileage ended up at 226.45 miles, better than expected. A lot of those miles – more than half of them, actually -- were logged on our 135-meter indoor track, walking endless laps while listening to audiobooks or music.

In case you can’t tell, we’re really excited about the future of Marist Track … with a track! What's next = a lot!

 We head up to Boston for the John Thomas Terrier Invitational at BU (aka Magic Carpet). The men race on Friday and the women race on Saturday (a switch from previous years). We may run a men's DMR on Saturday as well (it is entered = we'll see). 

Next week, we have the Mets Championships at Ocean Breeze on Friday, Feb 2.

The next day, in Orlando, is the U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon, with Marist Running Alum Spencer Johnson entered in the race = very exciting!

We are also planning some alumni engagement/fundraising initiatives for the new Track and Turf Facility at North Field. More details on that coming very soon.

Gotham Cup: Men's and women's results

 We had a very small crew of men's and women's athletes today = so small that we drove down there in vans! Very old-school. It was a snowy day but worth the journey with the small team we brought. We'll have more athletes competing next weekend at the Terrier meet at Boston University. Thanks to (our) sports info guy Sam Higuera for formatting our results in our "style" (they are cut/pasted here).

Snowman on campus

 Thanks to freshman Matt(hew) Ferreri (seated, against the snowman) for sending me this picture of him and his teammates in the middle of campus, after they built this (truly) larger than life snowman after Sunday's big storm (more than a foot of snow in these parts). Our team is back on campus, training hard for the upcoming track season(s), which starts/resumes on Friday at Ocean Breeze for the St. Thomas Aquinas (STAC) meet. Neat.
