Halloween at practice

The women's XC continued "theme week" with Halloween today and at this morning's sprinter lift, team captain Santosh Krishnan decided to be ME. He even had the cargo shorts and tube socks, but do we really need to see that too? He said he couldn't smile with the fake beard, to which Suma replied, "that's OK, Pete never smiles anyway!"

Track team repping it at Hunger Walk

Very proud of our men's and women's track/XC athletes for taking time out of their busy schedule on Wednesday to lead the way in Campus Ministry's Hunger Walk. Our men and women carried the banner! Nicely done, one and all.

Jillian Corley wins marathon in North Carolina!

Congrats to Marist Running Alum Jillian Corley for her truly outstanding victory last weekend at the 14th annual Peak to Creek Marathon in North Carolina. Jill ran 2:59:21, an average of 6:51 per mile. Nicely done! Jill said it was a “really beautiful course” but that she underestimated how much the downhills would hurt. We’re proud of her for continuing to excel in the red and white all these years later (hard to believe that she is 30 years old … and still running strong!

Suffolk County Marathon: Gregg for the WIN!

Congratulations to Bryan Buttigieg ("Gregg") for his outstanding marathon debut, winning the Suffolk County Marathon on a soggy Sunday morning. The rain and wind were no thang for Gregg (his name is often misspelled ... I got it right for a change, Peter!), who now lives in Seattle. As he said post-race, that was a normal Seattle day! His good friend Mark Valentino was a few strides behind. Complete results, race report and maybe more photos to follow. Gregg was Tino's best man at his wedding just a few months ago. Very neat! Nicely done, men.

Katie Miale qualifies for Olympic Trials!

She’s been chasing this goal for years. And on Sunday, Marist racewalker Katie Miale achieved it! Katie will be joining her teammates and good friends Lauren Harris and Kayla Shapiro at the United States Olympic Trials 20km racewalk. On Sunday at the USATF championships on Hauppauge, Long Island, Katie finished in 1:46:17, easily finishing under the qualifying standard of 1:48:00. Lauren and Kayla were there to help her along the way, along with Coach Chuck Williams, who has elevated himself as a fixture and known coaching authority in the USA racewalking community. Having three Olympic Trials qualifiers wearing the same uniform will do that. Very, very neat! Congratulations, Katie!
