Updated time schedule
Guys,
Go to www.bu.edu/track. The time schedule has been updated to reflect the large number of entries. Of particular note is that the 5k starts later than the original
schedule by about an hour.
Also, for Dave Raucci (not sure if he reads this blog): You have more time now between the mile and 3k, which is a good thing.
I'll have a new order of events printed out for everyone on the bus on Friday morning.

Hang in there ...
Hey guys ... my sister from SC is coming to town (NJ) so I will be down in NJ visiting tonight and Sunday. I will do my best to get the entries for BU up on the blog, but it may not be till Monday. Same with Friday night's splits.
Friday's meet was a bit better than the Fordham opener, but we still have a long way to go. Progress.
BU should be better than Friday, and on and on. This is how the season should progress.
If you have any special entry requests, call my cell. Remember that we will be traveling with a somewhat limited squad due to the competitiveness of the meet. I'll do my best to accommodate everyone.
See you Monday. Remember, distance practice is at 9:30 a.m. There is a home men's hoop game at 4 p.m. I'm guessing Chuck will meet the sprinter guys/gals a bit earlier too.

Why we run
No updated NYU schedule yet. If and when I get one, I will pass it along.
A few nights ago, the captains called a team-only meeting, to get everybody together and "on the same page." That's great. I'm glad everyone cares enough to do this. It's important.
While I wasn't there, I believe one of the topics covered was motivation and goal-setting for meets. Track is an interesting sport. You have to be highly motivated, internally, to even do this sport, at this time of the year, in this area of the country.
Think about it: It's cold out. It's hard work. We are the totally forgotten sport now. Both basketball teams are kicking ass. Awesome to see! Everybody's into that, and you guys should be too. The swimming team is preparing to hang more championship banners in the pool area. Good for them! We root for the Wet Foxes as well.
Us? We're heading down to the Armory every week, or to Boston, to do our absolute best. You are putting on the Marist uniform and busting out gut-wrenching performances. The only ones who notice are your teammates, maybe your family members and friends, and of course your coaches.
It matters. It matters to me, a lot. It matters to your fellow teammates. And it should sure as hell matter to you guys.
We are the consummate underdogs. Unknown. Barely funded. Running on icy sidewalks and a 30-year-old dilapidated indoor track with wires all over it.
No complaining. No whining. Just hard work. It's why we run.
The season starts in earnest on Friday. Most of the team is running. Let's make some memories during the next two months of indoor track.
Most importantly, let's have no regrets. When you put on the Marist uniform, wear it with pride and leave everything you have out there on the NYC and BU tracks.
We'll be watching, and we'll be proud as hell to be associated with this group of Running Red Foxes.

Another Asics order
There has been some interest in another Asics order (shoes, apparel, etc). If you are interested, please email your order to our Asics Order Coordinator Teddy Marak at theo1539@hotmail.com or tell me at practice.
I'd like to finalize an order by next Monday at the latest so guys can get sneakers in a timely fashion.
Let me know. Let Teddy know.
Have an excellent evening.

DMR at NYU
After discussing with some of the guys, we may try to "semi-stack" a DMR at Friday's meet. What I mean by "semi-stack" is not everyone will be entirely fresh. But close enough.
With Girm and D-Raucci running the mile earlier in the day, most likely unseeded, this will give them a lot of time to come back and run a relay. I had originally thought 4x8 but they seem more interested in the DMR, which is fine with me. Might actually make more sense too.
So ... the tentative legs would be something like this:
1200: Girm/Dave (doubling back from mile)
400: Shaun Kippins (only running event, also doing LJ/TJ)
800: B-Dix (fresh)
1600: Girm/Dave (doubling back from mile)
That's the plan, for now, subject to change. B-Dix will remain entered in the open 800, just in case. If Girm/Dave get placed in the seeded mile (later in the meet), we may have to alter these plans.
EXCELLENT JOB in the workout indoors today. T-Dix mentioned that it seemed hard to breathe in there today, and I would agree. It did seem awfully dry. I was sweating a lot during my short warmup jog (and remember, I run SLOWLY).
Remember 9:30 a.m. practice Tuesday. See you then,

Comment: GREAT job for your first 5k ever on the track in a strange race.
John Keenan 15:40.68 (personal best)
39, 76 (37), 1:53 (37), 2:28 (35), 3:04 (36). 1k: 3:04

Comment: Solid job in a strange race. You got into a nice groove early, and then some surges screwed with your late-race pacing. Pretty typical first race of the season. You can improve upon this, by A LOT.
Mile run
David Raucci 4:22.65
33, 66 (33), 1:39 (33), 2:11 (32), 2:43 (32), 3:15 (32), 3:48 (33), 4:22.65 (34.65)
Comment: An even race, which is not surprising. You didn't have your usual, late-race surge, which is surprising, but maybe not considering your high-mileage regimen. A solid start.
Kris Geist 4:40.0135, 69 (34), 1:44 (35), 2:19 (35), 2:55 (36), 3:31 (36), 4:06 (35), 4:40.01 (34.01)
Comment: This is where you are, but I believe a lot of improvement is on the way.

Comment: Fell asleep briefly in the final 1k, but rebounded nicely and a strong PR for you. Great job.
Zak Smetana 9:21.24 35, 72 (37), 1:51 (39), 2:29 (38), 3:04 (35). 1k: 3:04

Comment: A bit sporadic early on, and it cost you over the final 1k. This will get a lot better. Solid start.
Matt Janczyk 9:36.24
35, 72 (37), 1:49 (37), 2:27 (38), 3:02 (35). 1k: 3:02
3:37 (35), 4:13 (36), 4:50 (37), 5:28 (38), 6:06 (38). 2k: 3:04
6:47 (41), 7:29 (42), 8:12 (43), 8:55 (43), 9:36.24 (41.24). 3k: 3:30.24
Comment: Yikes. Obviously the last 1k was a disaster. We'll make some training adjustments and get this back to where it needs to be.
Overall:
Pretty typical up and down first meet stuff. Now that this is out of the way, time to start getting to where we should be and putting up strong performances. Keep working hard. This week will be more of the same. More details on next week's meet coming Sunday and Monday. Many more of you will be racing next week.

Comment: GREAT job for your first 5k ever on the track in a strange race.
John Keenan 15:40.68 (personal best)

800
Greg Dubois28.8, 59, 1:32, 2:04.89
Comment: Strong start, need to finish better
1000
Greg Masto

Comment: Fell asleep briefly in the final 1k, but rebounded nicely and a strong PR for you. Great job.
Zak Smetana 9:21.24 35, 72 (37), 1:51 (39), 2:29 (38), 3:04 (35). 1k: 3:04

6:45 (37), 7:25 (40), 8:03 (38), 8:43 (40), 9:21.24. 3k: 3:14.24
Comment: A bit sporadic early on, and it cost you over the final 1k. This will get a lot better. Solid start.
Matt Janczyk 9:36.24

6:47 (41), 7:29 (42), 8:12 (43), 8:55 (43), 9:36.24 (41.24). 3k: 3:30.24
Comment: Yikes. Obviously the last 1k was a disaster. We'll make some training adjustments and get this back to where it needs to be.
Overall:
Pretty typical up and down first meet stuff. Now that this is out of the way, time to start getting to where we should be and putting up strong performances. Keep working hard. This week will be more of the same. More details on next week's meet coming Sunday and Monday. Many more of you will be racing next week.

Back at it ...
The blog will be a very useful tool for us in the coming days, weeks, months ...
1. Meet results and splits will be posted here. Check for Fordham results and splits by the end of the weekend.
2. Meet entries will be posted here. Check for NYU/Gotham entries by Monday afternoon.
3. Practice schedules/workouts will be posted here. Check frequently.
Today was a good start to the season. Not a lot of action for the men, but we'll get cranking good and fast the next few weeks.
Please let the tracksters (non distance boys) know about this fancy blog so they can start checking it as well.
Good night for now.

Snow
For those of you on the team that live south and east of here (that's most of you), you may be VERY SURPRISED at what you see when you return to Poughkeepsie. And that would be a lot of snow. A LOT.
On New Year's Day, we got a surprise 3-4 inches. I heard down in Beacon, just a few miles from here, it was rain. So the "snow line" was pretty close. My yard in Hyde Park, just 5 miles north of campus, is covered in about a foot of snow. Many of you reading this probably have no snow in your yards.
Of course, there are several of you that live NORTH of here, and may have MORE snow than we do. So there will be no shock for you.
Enjoy the day, everyone.

Happy New Year: Update
Hi guys,
I have heard back from several of you guys regarding the Fordham meet. But not everyone. Here is an update to the original email I sent to you guys, in no particular order (mostly from the original T-shirt order list from back in the summer, if you are wondering about the randomness of the names in order ...
Rolek: Not racing, by choice
TDix: Not racing, to get healthy
Maynes: Not racing, suspension held over from xc (possible relay leg with some lobbying ...)
Keenan: 5k
Keegan: 5k
Side note: Interesting! Two St Anthony's guys in the same event, with their names differing by just one letter!
Geist: relay leg
DRaucci: Mile, possible relay leg
Girma: Not racing, by choice
Vess: Not racing, redshirt (will race at NYU and BU meets)
Holinko: Not racing yet
Shane: Not racing due to study hall infraction
BDix: TBA. Possibly 800. Call me or email, BRO!
Theo: TBA. I'm leaning toward waiting a week?
JoeT: Not racing by choice.
Emerel: TBA. Possible 3k/5k? Let me know?
Conor: Possible 3k/5k? Let me know! Call me, bro!
Greg: Email or call so we can discuss!
Janczyk: Ditto.
Rob: Ditto. Need to know your grades!
Zak: Ditto.
Duggan: Ditto.
Sam: Probably 3k, but we'll see how you are feeling?
Web: Not racing, by choice.
So there you go, still a lot of unknowns. Please call or email me if you have not already.
Remember: "2008" and "great" are rhyming words!
