MAAC Championships in all our sports – cross country, indoor
track, outdoor track – are emotionally charged events usually tinged with a bit
of finality for the seniors in our program. With one more MAAC Championship to
go, outdoors at Monmouth in a few months, the series of goodbyes that comes
with senior year in college has already started, and the MAAC indoor meet this past
weekend was one of them. These two images – the first a collage – do a decent
job of expressing the emotions and the long journey of our sport. The collage is
of three seniors – Brian Henderson, Tanner Senius, Drew Burns – good friends,
housemates, captains, middle distance brothers, taken each year at the MAAC
Championships at the Armory. Freshman, sophomore, junior, senior. Pretty cool.
The second one is of those three guys and fellow senior captains Shea Bohan and
Jordan Casey. Jordan texted it to me with the note: “The squad has just one
more MAACs … time goes too fast.” Amen, sister. We have a few more months
together, seniors. Let’s savor every practice, every meet, every van and bus
ride. It’s been a good ride, with a few more chapters to write.
