In one of the more remarkable single races in school
history, three of our leading ladies ran amazingly well at 1,000 meters on
Friday afternoon here in Boston. All three women easily bested the ECAC
qualifying mark of 2:56.24, with all of them edging very close to one of the
most hallowed school records on the books – Susan Golden’s 2:52.58, set all the
way back in 2003! All three ladies raced together in Heat 4 of the event, but
all of them took different paths to their breakthrough efforts: Denise Grohn
held back for much of the race before unleashing an incredible final lap; Shea
Bohan ran her usual steady/aggressive race; Gianna Mastromatteo ran her usual aggressive
start/hang on tough race. The end result are the times you see below – great effort
by all three, more magic on the Magic Carpet. Extremely neat!
