Great workouts today!

Wow. Lots of energy and fast running in the McCann Center today. Nicely done! Especially great to see Maynes ripping it up, doing his best Bamberger impression with a 54-second quarter on the piece-of-xxx track, and then closing with a 26-second 200 in the neg split 400. Nicely done.

Great to have Webs and Emerel back on the track, too.

In all, I was just happy that you guys still have the hunger, the drive, the desire, to keep pushing it ... even after a disappointing MAAC meet.

Do Work.

Now and always.

Looking back, looking forward

Hello men,

I haven't had a free moment on the computer since Wednesday night. Today will be better, so expect to see MAAC splits (strange as they are, and trust me, they are bizarre) later today/tonight.

In regards to the NYU Fastrack meet Friday, I think I have touched base with everyone. We will try the DMR one more time with a tentative lineup of David (1200), John (400), Maynes (800), Girma (1600). Other than that, it's a free-for-all in terms of events. Choose what you want and we'll give it a go.

This week is your "rest" week between seasons. We'll keep running, but very low-key, and then give you next weekend completely off for most. A week from today (March 3), we start cranking again. This means higher mileage, doubles, strength-based work (hills, accelerators, etc).

More later.

Been a long time ...

Sorry, men. Apparently, you loyal blog followers have been thirsting for a post. Here you go!

Well, with the indoor MAAC Championships coming up on Friday, I thought I should comment on the state of the team and what we should expect. In a word: CHALLENGING.

Iona is loading up the distance events (800 on up), which is not only to be expected but is as it should be. They finished 2nd in the NATION in cross country. Naturally, they will have an overabundance of fast runners in these events.

And so we do what we always do: OUR BEST. And leave it at that, and out there on the track.

Manhattan and St. Peter's are loaded up in the sprints, throws, jumps. Rider has strong athletes across the board in all disciplines. They are what they are, and we do what we do: OUR BEST.

Although the MAAC is a 5-team league for men, each team brings to the table a lot of strong qualities. It's a small meet but a good meet. A very good meet.

Captains, your job is to rally our team and make sure we are unified and our voices are heard loud and strong throughout the Armory.

That is all for now. In the next post, I will put up the MAAC Indoor Schedule for all to see ...

Coach Pete

Today's workout, 2.5.08

For those of you that did today's workout in McCann, good job. The idea here was to stay in control and sharp and not overextend. I think you all did that. A few of you in the second group struggled mid-workout, but by skipping that one interval, you woke right back up. That's a good sign. You are all in good condition, let's aim for some good PRs up in Boston on Saturday.

FYI, the Boston trip:

Women's bus leaves at 7:30 a.m. I will be on that with Phil and the ladies so I can assist Phil with field events, sprints and splits as necessary.
Men's bus leaves at 2:30 p.m. Coach Chuck will be on that bus, with your meal money. If any of you guys want to come on the women's bus (Lord knows why), let me know.

The plan is for the men's bus to drive directly into Boston and you guys will eat around the BU area and pick me up for transportation to the hotel. The women return to Pok late Friday night.

The last Boston trip, I think it was tough for a lot of guys to wait around the better part of two days before racing. This split departure alleviates that issue in part since you won't have to wait around on Friday. After eating in Boston, we'll head right up to the hotel for light's out.

The meet schedule is a bit longer than Terrier. There are more sections of everything. 3k and 5k guys, be prepared for a long day. Plan on eating breakfast in the area and then just chilling, maybe watch a movie on the bus or whatever. You guys did fine with it two weeks ago, this should be even better.

See you all at 11 a.m. practice Wednesday. Vess, T-Dix and Corey Ennist will work out. I'll post the Valentine meet sked here later if I get a chance ...

Workout for Tuesday

Guys,

Here is the protocol for Tuesday. Depending on illnesses at home (they are mounting), I may or may not be there. I'll do my best.

Distance group: Jancyzk, Geist, Theo, Hinky, Conor, Keegan, Keenan, Duggan, Zak, Masto, Girma, Rolek, Joe Mac (if he is around)

1x400 stride. 1.5-2 min recovery
1x1600 at 3k/5k pace or slower. 4 min recovery
1x1200 at same pace. 3 min recovery
1x1000 at same pace. 3 min recovery
1x800 at slightly faster than 3k/5k pace
1x400 at slightly faster than 3k pace

NOTE: This workout should not be hard at all. It should be a tuneup of sorts. We have been working hard in the speed arena of late, and racing a lot. We don't need to drill you guys with another ballbuster workout. We'll save that for next week, which is an off week.

If I cannot make it, I will call Rolek or someone else to describe pacing I'm looking for.

Middle distance group: Maynes, B-Dix, Dubois, Colin Johnson (if they can make it)

1 x 200 stride to start
2 sets of 4 x 400 (8 x 400 total)
First set: 61-63, 3 min recovery
Full recovery between sets
Second set: Cutdown 61 down to 58 if possible. 3-4 mins recovery or as much as needed to get this done!
1 x 200 stride to finish

NOTE: Vess, T-Dix and Ennist will work out on Wednesday, with workouts varying slightly from these for them.

Hope to see you at practice in the coming days, but if not ... not.
