IC4A Championships, Day 1: A day for the ages

These are the days you dream about. When almost everything falls into place and everything goes really well for your athletes. IC4As indoors, Day 1, 2020 … will be a meet day that none of us will soon forget: Four school records (Glenmour Leonard-Osbourne, twice in the 60-meter dash, once in the 200-meter dash) and the miraculous 4x800 relay team of Brendan Dearie, Aidan Sweeney, Connor St. Germain and James Moehringer. Three incredible, breakthrough performances at 5,000 meters: freshman Ramsey Little vaulting all the way to 5th all time (14:30.35); junior Graham Strzelecki zooming up to 7th all-time (14:34.13); senior Christopher Rivas is now 15th in school history (14:46.97). Remarkably, none of them actually “qualified” for this meet (standard is 14:45.00) but due to a new policy in 2020 where the field was filled up to the first 32 declarations, they were all given a chance at the race, and boy did they seize the day! The DMR team that featured three freshmen and one very motivated junior (Young Cole Ziskind, popping off with a 1:57.10 split) held their own among the big boys. But again, the 4x800 … whoa! They nailed it, and in the process got the IC4A outdoor qualifying mark out of the way, which is huge. And oh yeah, Ramsey and Graham also took care of the outdoor IC4A qualifying mark for the 5km (standard is 14:40.00).

Can you tell we’re excited? You BET we are! Sunday’s schedule features Glen in the 60 dash final and Ramsey coming back for more, in the first (unseeded) section of the 3,000-meter run.
