BU Valentine: ECAC qualifiers, better together

Although they are becoming more and more commonplace on our women’s team, it’s still a special moment when we get ECAC qualifying marks in both individual and relay events. It’s extra special when you get what happened in the mile run at the Valentine meet on Friday night – two teammates both getting the standard, together, within hundredths of seconds of each other (and of the school record, too! Wow!). Such was the beautiful synchronicity of Emily Burns (4:55.92) and Shea Bohan (4:55.96), teammates, training partners, good friends, and now two of the fastest milers in school history, both punching their tickets to the ECAC Championships, right back here on the Magic Carpet in a few weeks. A few events prior to that, Denise Grohn had a monster race at 1,000 meters, getting the ECAC mark and getting remarkably close to one of the oldest school records on the books, with her 2:53.95. No one is more consistent and tough than Denise, and she showed that today. In the “better together” category, she shared the same heat as her teammate, friend and relay partner Kerry Gaye, who eclipsed that elusive 3:00 barrier in the event with a 2:59.10. Excellent running, ladies. And it’s even better together, isn’t it?
