Final words on XC

A memorable fall 2017 cross country season has come to a close. Astute followers of this fancy blog don’t need an extensive recap, so a few sentences here will do. For the women’s XC team, we went to places never before reached by a women’s program, and it’s a season we will never forget. From early season victories, to school records, to best-ever finishes at meets, it seemed that each meet the ladies outdid themselves from week to week; and the work ethic in practice was stellar, each and every day. For the men’s XC team, we had many strong performances (especially from our lead runner, Dietrich Mosel) and highlights that we will take away from the season. Although we fell a little shy of some goals, it wasn’t from a lack of effort or race-day toughness. As a coach I can say that the day-to-day process of the program has never been as focused and dedicated as it is now, and that’s important to us all – in the present and moving forward. The final photo is of our graduating seniors, and The final words on the season belong to Coach Chuck Williams, courtesy of GoredFoxes.com, after Saturday’s ECAC meet:

“Our goal today was to finish the season on a high note. The women in the open race set the tone by winning the team title. Then, the women in the championship race went out and raced to a strong 4th-place finish while setting a school record by having our top 7 women break the 19:00 barrier at the famed VCP course. Words can't describe how proud I am of this group. Our goal in preseason was to be the greatest team in school history and today's performance left no doubt. In my 22 years of being associated with this program, I can't remember a season that was this special. It is something that we are all truly lucky to have been a part of.’’
