Shattering start to a new age group

Our old friend, Marist Running Alum and loyal program supporter Bob Sweeney of Colorado had a smashing debut as a 50-year-old at Sunday’s Glass City Marathon in Toledo, Ohio. Bob, who turned 50 in February, placed sixth overall out of more than 1,000 runners in the race and first in the masters (40-and-over) with a sterling time of 2:43:24. The master of consistency, Bob’s 13.1-mile splits were 1:21:32 and 1:21:52. Not bad at any age, but certainly stellar at a new milestone year. For true numbers geeks, Bob’s “age-graded time and achievement percentile” calculated at 2:29:11 and 86.012 percent, according to this web site. In other words, it’s an elite-level performance from an endurance athlete with a career filled with them. Nicely done, Bob!
