Winners off the track, too

We are very proud of our student-athletes. We are very proud of the fact that “student” always comes first. Always. Always. Case in point: Three of our loyal athletes – Catherine Ferreri, Marissa Porter, Omar Perez – missed a beautiful day at Stony Brook for the Wolfie Invitational on Saturday. Instead they were up at Niagara over the weekend, presenting their science research at the Eastern CollegeScience Conference, also known as ECSC. Marist competed against many schools from the Northeast such as Niagara, Providence, Manhattan, and Wagner. According to Omar:

“Our project was titled, ‘An Emerging Threat to Aquatic Ecosystems: Bioaccumulation of Silver Nanoparticles in Sphagnum Magellanicum.’ It was a successful weekend because our other colleagues and us won an award for our manuscript (the paper part of the project). According to Doctor Gagnon, we have never won an award when Niagara has hosted this conference.”

So, for one weekend, there were no PRs on the track for Catherine, Marissa and Omar. But they were superstars where it matters the most, and we are extremely proud of them – now and always. Nicely done!
